Art Asia runs Holiday Workshops for children and sometimes their families. In the past these have often been Visual Art based and attendees have learnt crafts skills and sometimes got nice and mucky in the process!
Currently there aren't any Holiday Workshops planned, but if you would like to suggest a workshop please contact Lucy Jenner on 023 8022 6212 or email lucy.jenner@artasia.org.uk
Previous holiday workshops:
2009
Mural Workshop
Artist Sue Riley worked with 15 young people in a two day workshop to produce a mural wall piece to liven up our Activity Centre. Music, dance and South Asian patterns were used as inspiration. Simple printing techniques and stylized images created in vinyl of Asian musical instruments layered in a collage style, made up the fantastic, vibrant mural that now reflects the creative space and is enjoyed by our class students.
‘I just wanted to say a big thank you to you and Sue for the terrific work you did with the kids. They loved it! And it supported many with their confidence’. Sophia Syed, Saucepans.

2008
Batik Workshop
In our February Half Term workshop, families looked at traditional Bengali culture, art and images and used them to design bunting to decorate the Mela. Artist Lucy Jenner showed everybody how to do a modern twist on the traditional Batik method.

Mehndi Workshop
In our Easter Holiday workshops, families enjoyed using Mehndi patterns as inspiration for t-shirt design. Children and their parents learnt how to embellish fabric in creative ways using embroidery, beading and fabric pens.
Women’s Art Workshops
In the run-up to International Women’s Evening, Art Asia ran a ceramic art workshop for local women with artist Jackie Giron. Participants used Asian architecture as inspiration to make ceramic treasure boxes and they were displayed at the International Women’s Evening in March.
